When does Codex reset? Read the time for each allowance

Use Codex’s reported reset times and distinguish a saved countdown from a fresh allowance check.

Updated September 6, 2026

There is no need to infer your reset from yesterday’s work. Start with the time reported for the account and the allowance that matters to your task.

Check the authoritative view

OpenAI points users to its usage dashboard and /status in the Codex CLI. Its current documentation describes five-hour usage and possible weekly limits. Do not assume that Codex is weekly-only or that every account has the same windows.

Keep the reset attached to its limit

How Much Usage displays the reset time returned for each reported Codex window. A model-specific or code-review allowance can differ from general capacity. An unavailable reset stays unavailable.

Come back when it is useful

  1. Request a dashboard refresh and check the saved reading’s age.
  2. Download a calendar reminder for the reset you want to revisit.
  3. After the reminder, refresh again to confirm the provider’s current reading.

The countdown can tick down without contacting Codex. It does not refill the saved usage bar, automatically switch accounts or prove that every restriction has cleared.

Frequently asked questions

Can I rely on an old reset countdown?
Use it as a reminder to check. Refresh after the reported reset to confirm the current allowance.
Does How Much Usage reset Codex limits?
No. It displays reported information and helps you plan. Only the provider controls the allowance.
