Claude's 5-hour session and weekly limits, explained

How to read Claude’s session, weekly and additional limits without confusing a reset countdown with newly available capacity.

Updated September 6, 2026

A short-term allowance and a weekly allowance answer different questions. You need to check both before deciding whether an account is ready for more work.

The session window

Claude uses a five-hour session allowance. Use the reset information shown for your account rather than assuming a universal daily reset time.

The weekly and additional limits

Anthropic’s Pro plan documentation describes a weekly reset assigned to the account. Additional model or feature limits can also apply. Read the current labels and times instead of assuming every plan always has the same model buckets.

A reset applies to one allowance

An account can have session capacity while another reported limit is exhausted. Check which allowance is blocking your task; a model-specific limit and an account-wide limit are different constraints.

Plan from a recent reading

How Much Usage shows each reported limit with its own reset time. Press Refresh all, check the reading age, and use Save for later if you want to reserve an account in your planning. This does not hold capacity at Claude or prevent other sessions from using it.

A countdown follows a saved reset time. When it reaches zero, refresh to confirm what Claude now reports. You can also download a calendar reminder for a known reset.

Frequently asked questions

Does a session reset clear every limit?
No. Check each reported allowance separately; a weekly or additional limit may still apply.
Does the dashboard know how many tasks I can finish?
No. A remaining percentage is a share of that account’s allowance, not a task count or time estimate.
